FERN PHOON - DIRECTOR OF ENCORE! SCHOOL OF MUSIC
Fern graduated from the University of Auckland in 2003 with a Master of Commerce and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours), majoring in finance and economics.
She moved to the capital city after that to begin her life as an economist at the Treasury. After five years of economic policy work, she decided to move to the private sector and became a consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers for a couple of years. These roles gave Fern invaluable experience, teaching her how to think analytically & logically, and even taught her some important life lessons. They also gave her the opportunity to work with major organisations in Wellington and to contribute to a number of economic policies as well as provide consulting advice on areas covering management and economics.
Fern then decided to follow her dream and venture into entrepreneurship, co-founding Encore! in 2009. She loves connecting with people and has a real passion for setting up businesses with products that would make life better for everyone. She believes in the vision and values of Encore! and continues to guide the music school towards making improvements incrementally and continuously.
As you can see, her career path has been varied, spanning the public sector, private sector and entrepreneurship. While she has learnt much from her past employment, running Encore! School of Music has confirmed to her that creating and building great organisations with a positive and excellent culture is one of her life's great passions.
Fern is also a mom to her two children, William and Vivienne, who keep her busy and on her feet, and a wife to Jin. She loves spending time with her family, which includes her many gorgeous nieces and nephews.
