DAVID BEATTIE - PIANO, KEYBOARD & MUSIC THEORY WELLINGTON MUSIC TEACHER
David Beattie was originally intending to be a mathematician or astronomer, but had a change of heart during his early twenties and pursued music, completing a BA in Music History at Canterbury University, and also ATCL at the age of 30 (LTCL came later).
David has been a full-time private teacher of Piano and Advanced Theory since 1988, and although he is now in his sixties, would like to carry on doing this for the foreseeable future, as he counts himself lucky to be doing a job he loves!
From time to time, he enjoys playing the piano to accompany silent movies, following in the steps of his paternal grandmother who played for them when they were new, and has also been known to sing in or conduct choirs.
David's musical tastes lean mostly in the 'classical' direction, but he does retain a typical baby-boomer's affection for the Blues, and is as likely to listen to Memphis Minnie or Muddy Waters on You Tube as he is to seek out obscure 18th century women composers.
"Nathan has really enjoyed his lessons with David. He has a great manner and Nathan is improving and enjoying his music. David sets achievable goals each week for Nathan, trying to instil how to practice correctly so he can tackle harder pieces." - Kate Webber
