OWEN CARTY GUITAR, BASS & UKULELE TEACHER
As a guitar teacher, Owen loves to strike a chord with his students. He initially became interested in teaching music through teaching his own friends how to play the guitar and seeing the positive impact it had on their lives. He is now a passionate musician and music teacher, resolute on dedicating his life to the purpose. Owen is a well-rounded musician, teacher, and individual. He currently holds Grade 8 in Classical Guitar (2007, Trinity). He is also a competent singer, and has some experience on other instruments. After three years of study, Owen completed a BA in Music Studies and History in 2011. Owen then spent 2012 studying to become a teacher, gaining invaluable teaching experience, attaining a Graduate Diploma in Teaching. He knows and can play a wide variety of genres and styles on the guitar, including Classical, Jazz, Rock, Reggae, Country, Blues, Funk and more. Owen is an active musician. He plays in bands and as a solo musician. Owen believes that getting out there and playing is central to becoming great at music. Music has enriched his life, and he seeks to try and enrich others’ lives through the same medium. "I am very impressed with Ryan's progress. I have noticed that whenever Owen has worked with Ryan on a song, he comes home knowing exactly what to do to improve, and then with practice, is able to make the song sound the way it should. We are pleased that Ryan has had this opportunity of one-to-one guitar lessons, it has enabled him to go in an individual direction, so thank you." - Demelza Murrihy-Topp, parent "Thank you for all you have done for Abby and a special thank you to Owen who has made Abby's lesson times very enjoyable for her." - Vicky Wutzler "...I decided that, after years of wondering if I could learn to play a musical instrument I should do it, I enrolled for ukulele lessons. Owen is really lovely, very patient and an excellent teacher. At my first lesson he asked if I would like to learn to play “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”. I was so pleased that I would be able to learn music that matched my tastes of seventies and eighties music rather than scales or set patterns that I don’t like. As I progressed I realised that I wanted to read music and learn some music theory. Owen is extremely knowledgeable and patient answering my many questions in a way that I could understand. After two terms learning the ukulele I asked Owen if he thought I could learn to play the guitar. This has been a big step for me and Owen has been supportive, reassuring and patient. Quite frankly I don’t know how he keeps his composure listening to my stuttering attempts. Learning the guitar has opened up more questions, and our lessons became a combination of playing music and me asking a lot of questions like “What does this mean? Play it for me and How do I do that?” I am very grateful to Owen for his patience and perseverance and for sharing his music knowledge with me." - Kerry Saul |
