TRINITY MUSIC EXAMS AT ENCORE SCHOOL OF MUSIC
We understand that taking exams is not for everyone! However, there are those who are motivated by the challenge of exams, or who would like an internationally recognised music qualification. At Encore, we help these students work towards sitting their Trinity exams.
These exams are offered by Trinity College London (www.trinitycollege.co.uk), an international exam board that has been providing assessments since 1877. Each year, over 600,000 candidates in over 60 countries take a Trinity assessment. Trinity assessments are designed to help students progress in their musical journey by marking their achievements at each stage of their development and all levels of competence. The exams focus on assessing skills and how effectively the candidates can apply what they have learnt.
Many of Encore Trinity candidates have achieved at least a Merit or Distinction in their exams. In recent times, three of our students achieved marks that placed them among the top students in the whole of New Zealand!
How do I apply to sit for an exam?
Discuss with your teacher about whether it is appropriate for you to sit for an exam. If you both agree to go ahead, please fill in the form below. The online form below must be completed by the closing date (as stated above) of the exam you are interested in.
What will it cost to sit an exam?
Please note: these sessions will only go ahead if:
If the actual dates are drastically different from the draft dates, Trinity will be in touch with the applicant to ensure we can find a date that suits. If the session/s are cancelled by Trinity due to Covid-19 related reasons, a full refund/credit will be offered.
If a student cannot sit their exam, due to an injury or illness, Trinity offers a 50% re entry voucher which is valid for 12 months. We would need a doctors certificate for this voucher to be initiated. This entitles the student to sit their exam within 12 months, paying only half the fee. The voucher can go toward an exam of the same or higher grade.

WHAT TYPE OF EXAM AND GRADE LEVEL SHOULD I SIT FOR?

WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS?
WHAT IF MY EXAM IS AT THE SAME TIME AS MY MUSIC LESSON?
You will find out well ahead of time the actual date/time for your exam, so please make sure you inform us if there is a clash. As per usual policy, if you provide us with notice of your absence (by 4.00 pm the day before your lesson) we can provide you with a catchup lesson at the end of the term. We are unable provide more than one catchup lesson per term.
WHAT IF I REQUIRE A MUSICAL ACCOMPANIST FOR MY EXAM?
It is your responsibility to organise an accompanist if you require one for your exam (whether it be for live accompaniment or for recording purposes); this includes liaising with them to attend lessons/rehearsals, providing them with sheet music, payments, etc. Encore does not currently provide accompanists for exams, however, we may know of accompanists who may be available so let us know if you need help with that.
