ALEXA THOMSON - VIOLIN, PIANO & VIOLA WELLINGTON MUSIC TEACHER
Alexa Thomson moved to NewZealand from the USA in 2009. She is currently a student at the New Zealand School of Music, studying with Douglas Beilman of the New Zealand String Quartet.
From the age of four, she played violin under the guidance of her father, Dr. John Thomson, and took up the piano shortly afterwards with Dr. Susan Gray. She was a prizewinner in several American competitions andwas selected to be concertmaster of the South Dakota Allstate Orchestra in 2008. She also holds a Diploma of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (DipABRSM), and has performed as a soloist with the Nelson Symphony Orchestra (on both violin and viola) and the Capitol Performing Arts Orchestrain Wellington.
Alexa really enjoys teaching both the violin and piano (and would love to teach anyone interested in the viola as well!) and has had experience taking students successfully through their grade examinations, as well as accompanying them on the piano. Someday, she hopes to become a professor of music at a university so that she can teach and perform and share her love and enthusiasm for music with the world.
